Twenty eight students of Mohammed Ibrahim Jawa (MIJ) College of Traditional Medicine And Acupuncture, Bauchi Campus, have graduated with Diploma in African Traditional Medicine Science.
The Founder of the college, Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Jawa, disclosed this at the graduation ceremony of the first set of students finishing from the school with Diploma in African Traditional Medicine, saying the college was established to enhance the knowledge of traditional medicine practice and formalize the practice that would have far reaching benefits on the students and the society.
“The increased use of traditional medicine necessitates the training of the practitioners in the African sub region,” he said, adding that the students did courses in human physiology in African medicine, etiology, diagnosis, treatment, child health, and immunisation based on African traditional medicine. In his remark, the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Health, Dr. Saidu Aliyu Gital, said the priority of Bauchi State government was to bring all traditional medicine practitioners under one umbrella.
Gital, represented by a Director in the Ministry, Alhaji Aliyu Garba, said the state was ready to welcome institutions that would have direct effects on the citizens and improve the health status of the people.
One of the graduating students, Abdullahi Abubakar Sadique, said they had learnt about diagnosis, human body differences, types of treatment, signs and symptoms of different ailments, among others.
