400 JUTH Workers to Resume Strike Over Nonpayment of Salaries

Over 400 contract health workers and gardeners at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) have vowed to resume their strike action over the nonpayment of their salaries.

The workers hired by M&G, Crystal Global and Rimfore companies as contract staff had last month done a five-day strike in protest against almost 11 months of unpaid salaries.

Their strike caused filth and unpleasant smell in the various wards and toilets.

The managers of the companies had appealed to the striking workers to resume work with the assurance that they would be paid two months’ salary arrears by the end of last month.

But some of the workers who spoke to Daily Trust yesterday said they had not been paid and would therefore return to strike.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of JUTH, Haruna Zubairu Manzo, said the problem was a national issue and the Federal Ministry of Finance was working out modalities to solve it.
