Job Title: Anaesthetic Nurse

Location: Benin City, Edo

Employment Type: Full-time

 

Job Summary

• As the Anaesthetic Nurse, you are responsible for providing safe, effective and high-quality nursing care to patients before, during and immediately after anaesthesia and surgical procedures.
• The role involves assisting the anaesthetist, preparing and checking anaesthetic equipment and medications, monitoring patients, maintaining infection prevention standards, and ensuring patient safety throughout the perioperative period.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and assess patients before anaesthesia and surgery, ensuring proper identification, consent, medical history, investigations and readiness.
• Assist the anaesthetist with induction, maintenance and recovery from anaesthesia, including medication preparation and airway management.
• Monitor patients' vital signs and clinical condition throughout anaesthesia, promptly identifying and responding to emergencies.
• Provide appropriate post-anaesthetic care, monitor recovery and ensure safe patient handover.
• Prepare, check, clean and maintain anaesthetic equipment, medications and supplies.
• Maintain strict infection prevention, patient safety and theatre standards.
• Accurately document patient care, anaesthetic procedures and relevant clinical observations.
• Communicate effectively with anaesthetists, surgeons, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with hospital policies, professional standards and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in continuous professional development, clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
• Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, teamwork and a strong commitment to patient-centred care.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Registered Nurse (RN) qualification.
• Valid registration and practising licence with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
• Relevant post-basic qualification or certification in Perioperative/Theatre Nursing, Anaesthetic Nursing or a related speciality is an advantage.
• Minimum of 2–3 years' relevant clinical experience, preferably in an operating theatre or anaesthetic setting.
• Current knowledge of anaesthetic procedures, patient monitoring and emergency care.
