Job Purpose
The Assistant Lecturer in Nursing Science is a clinical-academic incubatee—grounded in professional nursing practice, developing scholarly depth, and trained to integrate evidence-based care, community health impact, digital health tools, and ethical leadership within African health systems.
The job purpose is to support undergraduate teaching and clinical instruction, participate in research and skills-lab delivery, and undergo structured academic and professional development toward full lecturing responsibilities in Nursing Science.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Teaching & Clinical Instruction:
- Assist in delivering undergraduate Nursing courses (theory, skills-lab, clinical postings). Support OSCEs, simulations, tutorials, and continuous assessment in line with C-CMAS and NMCN standards. Assist in examination administration, grading, and results processing.
Clinical Practice & Skills Development:
- Participate in skills-lab instruction (fundamentals, medical-surgical, maternal & child health, mental health). Support supervised clinical postings in accredited teaching hospitals/health facilities.
Research & Scholarship:
- Participate in departmental research, data collection, audits, and co-authored publications. Assist in grant proposals, quality-improvement studies, and community health research.
Innovation, Extension & Community Health:
- Support community health outreaches, primary health initiatives, and public-health education. Participate in digital health, patient-safety, and quality-of-care initiatives.
Academic Development & Service:
- Enrol and make satisfactory progress toward a PhD (Nursing or closely related). Assist in departmental administration and committees as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.NSc. (Nursing Science) from a recognised university and M.Sc. in Nursing (any recognised specialty)
- Current registration and valid practising licence with NMCN.
Minimum Experience Requirement:
- 3 years post-qualification experience (clinical, academic, or blended).
- Teaching assistantship/clinical preceptorship is an advantage.
