Job Purpose

The Assistant Lecturer in Public Health is a population-health scholar in formation, trained to integrate epidemiology, prevention science, social determinants of health, environmental sustainability and community engagement, while being groomed for advanced scholarship and leadership in African public health systems

The job purpose is to support undergraduate teaching, fieldwork and community-based learning in Public Health, participate in research and surveillance activities, and pursue advanced academic development towards independent lecturing responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MPH or MSc Public Health) or closely related discipline [Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Health Promotion, Health Policy & Management, Clinical Psychology (Behavioural & Mental Health Track); or, Medical Sociology (Health Behaviour & Psychosocial Sciences)
  • Evidence of readiness and commitment to pursue a PhD in Public Health.
  • Evidence of research exposure, field reports or programme evaluations is an advantage.

Minimum Experience Requirement:

  • 3 years relevant experience (academic, NGO, public health programmes, research or community health practice).
  • Student/Associate membership of recognised public health or health-related professional bodies encouraged.

Required Skills And Competencies:

  • Foundational epidemiologic reasoning; basic biostatistics; community engagement skills; data literacy; teamwork.
