Role Overview
- As the business continues to expand its healthcare facility design, installation, and maintenance portfolio, it is seeking an experienced Biomedical Engineer to support the delivery of healthcare-related projects.
- The Biomedical Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design, selection, installation, testing, commissioning, calibration, maintenance, and performance management of biomedical equipment across healthcare projects.
- The successful candidate will work closely with architects, M&E engineers, contractors, project managers, healthcare professionals, suppliers, and other technical teams to ensure that medical equipment and systems are properly integrated and meet required performance, safety, quality, regulatory, and project standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical biomedical engineering input during the design, planning, and implementation of healthcare facility projects.
- Support the selection, installation, testing, commissioning, and integration of biomedical equipment.
- Carry out equipment calibration, functional testing, safety checks, and performance verification.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
- Troubleshoot biomedical equipment faults and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Assess equipment performance and recommend upgrades, replacements, repairs, or adjustments where required.
- Review equipment specifications, technical drawings, schematics, manuals, and other technical documentation.
- Support procurement activities by evaluating biomedical equipment suppliers, quotations, specifications, and technical bids.
- Collaborate with architects, M&E engineers, contractors, project managers, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to ensure proper equipment integration.
- Participate in site inspections, project meetings, quality assurance checks, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Maintain accurate equipment records, maintenance logs, calibration records, and asset documentation.
- Prepare technical reports, commissioning reports, equipment schedules, maintenance records, and other project documentation.
- Ensure biomedical equipment and activities comply with applicable ISO standards, WHO guidelines, Nigerian healthcare regulations, and relevant safety requirements.
- Provide training to healthcare personnel and end users on the safe and effective operation and basic maintenance of installed equipment.
- Support project teams in identifying technical risks and resolving equipment-related issues throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- B.Sc., HND, or Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Relevant certifications in biomedical equipment servicing, calibration, maintenance, or safety standards will be an advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience working with biomedical equipment.
Experience in hospitals, diagnostic centres, medical facilities, healthcare infrastructure projects, or biomedical equipment servicing is preferred.
Hands-on experience with healthcare facility projects will be an added advantage.
Equipment Experience
Candidates should have practical knowledge or experience working with some of the following:
- Patient monitors
- Ventilators
- Ultrasound machines
- Laboratory analyzers
- X-ray equipment
- CT scanners
- MRI equipment.
- Experience with imaging equipment such as X-ray, CT, or MRI will be an added advantage.
Technical Knowledge
The ideal candidate should have knowledge of:
- Biomedical equipment installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Equipment calibration and performance testing
- Medical equipment safety standards and quality control
- Equipment lifecycle and asset management
- Regulatory requirements applicable to healthcare facilities
- ISO standards and WHO guidelines
- Nigerian healthcare regulations and compliance requirements
- Biomedical equipment management software and diagnostic tools
- Technical drawings, schematics, equipment specifications, and manufacturer's manuals
- Healthcare facility equipment planning and integration.
