Job Title: Farm Veterinarian
Location: Asaba, Delta
Position Summary
- The Farm Veterinarian at MDNI Farms plays a central role in the overall health, feeding, and livestock management of our goat herd.
- Beyond clinical care, this role involves developing and implementing herd nutrition plans, supervising feeding programs, supporting breeding strategies, and maintaining high health and production standards across the farm.
- You will collaborate with farm staff, supervise husbandry protocols, and ensure the daily well-being and productivity of all animals under our care..
Key Responsibilities
Feeding & Nutrition Management:
- Develop and supervise daily feeding schedules based on age, breed, and production stage
- Monitor feed intake and adjust rations to optimize weight gain, reproduction, and milk yield
- Oversee creep feeding, supplementation, and pasture-to-pen transitions
- Evaluate feed quality and storage conditions to prevent contamination or spoilage
- Train staff on proper feed mixing, ration delivery, and observation of eating behaviour.
Livestock Health & Veterinary Care:
- Diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries in goats through physical exams and lab testing
- Administer vaccinations, dewormers, medications, and emergency treatments
- Perform minor surgeries, wound care, obstetrics, and post-mortem evaluations
- Maintain accurate animal health records and medical logs
- Support disease prevention programs and biosecurity measures
Livestock Management & Performance Monitoring:
- Support breeding programs through health checks, heat detection, and fertility evaluations
- Collaborate with the husbandry team on weaning, kid management, and herd separation
- Supervise animal housing, pen hygiene, and stress-reduction practices
- Evaluate herd productivity, mortality, and treatment response for continuous improvement
- Lead training of staff on goat behaviour, welfare, and handling protocols
Qualifications and Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from a recognized institution
- Valid license to practice veterinary medicine in Nigeria
- Minimum 3 years of experience in livestock practice, preferably with goats or small ruminants
- Practical knowledge of meat goat production systems, vaccination schedules, and endemic disease control
- Strong diagnostic, surgical, and communication skills
- Ability to train and lead support staff
- Commitment to animal welfare, farm integrity, and teamwork.
Salary and Benefits
- N150,000 - N200,000 / Month based on qualifications and experience.
