Forum of Chief Executive Officers of State Primary Health Care Development Agencies/Boards of Nigeria Felicitations on Nigeria’s Polio Free Status

On behalf of Chief Executive Officers of Primary Healthcare Agencies / Boards across Nigeria, I heartily, felicitate with His Excellency, the President, and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, Vice President, Prof Yeni Osinbajo, GCON, the Honourable Minister of Health, the Minister of State for Health, Nigeria Governors' Forum, and the Chief Executive Director / CEO , National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, over the announcement of the Wild Polio Free status of Nigeria by the World Health Organization.

Your Excellency Sir, for many decades, Polio had continued to ravage the whole World with over 350,000 estimated cases in 1998 in 125 countries, including Nigeria.

By 2015, only three countries: Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria were still harbouring the wild polio virus.

We wish to commend with satisfaction, the various measures put in place by your administration.

On Thursday, June 18th, 2020, history was made in our dear country, with the acceptance of Nigeria as Polio documentation and subsequent pronouncement of Nigeria as a polio free country by the WHO.

We sincerely wish to recognize the efforts of all stakeholders including the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, the President, Christian Association of Nigeria, our Distinguished Partners both at the Federal and State level and various community leaders for their immense contributions towards achieving this remarkable feat.

While assuring you of the forum's resolve of an unflinching commitment towards improving the health of Nigerians, we want to sincerely and specially appreciate the unending support of the Government and the astute leadership of the Executive Director of the NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib who has proved that with the right leadership, expected results could be achieved.
