Norwegian Church Aid ('NCA') is a member of the ACT Alliance and works with people and local actors, especially Faith-based actors in many countries where it works in their struggle to eradicate poverty and injustices. We provide humanitarian assistance in disasters and work for long-term development in local communities and societies. In order to address the root causes of poverty, we advocate for just decisions by public authorities, businesses and religious leaders.

NCA has a presence in Nigeria to respond to the Humanitarian crisis in Northeast Nigeria. NCA has its core competencies in Gender Based Violence and Water Sanitation and Hygiene. NCA has its strengths in works and invest in local partners ensures building their capacities are built from the onset of response, in order to enable them to have the capacity to respond in a long-term intervention including recovery and development.

We are recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: GBV Case Management Worker

Location: Pulka, Borno

Employment Type: Contract

Contract Duration: 9 months

Responsibilities

  • Provides age-appropriate case management to survivors of GBV, including assessment of survivor’s needs, basic crisis counselling; developing a plan to address individual needs and safely implementing this plan to pursue services from other service providers as per survivor’s wishes.
  • Provides group PSS to women and girls; facilitates sessions focused on building awareness of different themes related to their wellbeing and safety and deliver key messages on GBV/ASRH.
  • Supports the Adolescent Girls Facilitators to conduct age-appropriate and specialized group emotional services for adolescent girls through identified or established safe spaces.
  • Provides essential information on available services and supports survivors in navigating the referral pathways and accessing services and identify concerns related to and support adherence to GBV referral protocols and GBV guiding principles and bring these concerns to the GBV Officer – response.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders including community leaders and other humanitarian partners and service providers.
  • Documents all program and beneficiary’s activity in an accurate and timely manner using standardized tools and forms.
  • Completes weekly and monthly activity reports, according to guidance provided by the GBV Officer – response.
  • Performs all other duties, as needed, or requested by the supervisor.

Working Relationships:

  • Maintains frequent communication with GBV Officer to ensure GBV activities and objectives are communicated.
  • Works with other program and operations staff at the field location to ensure the coordination of GBV activities are managed smoothly.

Security:

  • Ensures application and compliance of security protocols and policies.
  • Facilitates emergency and non-emergency security expenditures.
  • Actively promotes PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within NCA and amongst beneficiaries served by NCA.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Social Work, Nursing, Public Health, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Humanities, Law, or other related discipline.

Experience:

2–3 years experience with a minimum of one year work experience of GBV in emergencies, protection, and gender programming.

  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Can function effectively in a loosely structured work environment and to set appropriate priorities and deal effectively with numerous simultaneous requirements.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage workload effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in participatory manner with staff to assess needs, implement and monitor activities.
  • Ability to integrate and work well within multi-ethnic and multicultural team.
  • Working knowledge in the use of MS Word and Excel.
  • Fluent English in written and oral.
  • Must have strong GBV Minimum Standards and GBV Case Management Guidelines knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Gender Handbook, Humanitarian Principles, IASC Protection and CP minimum standards and guidelines.
  • Experience in counselling, social work, women’s health, or other related field.
  • Clear understanding of and interest in the wellbeing of women and girls and supporting their healing after the experience of violence.
  • Understanding of case management, psychosocial support and life skills programming to promote survivor healing and recovery.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for survivors.
  • Positive and professional attitude, including ability to lead and work well in a team setting.
  • Strong ability to maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, and work in a difficult environment
  • Practical experience working with refugees, IDPs, women and girls, and implementing programs in vulnerable communities.
  • Understands the challenges and obstacles women and girls face regarding cultural practices, norms, and society pressures.
  • Understands sensitivities of conducting awareness on violence related issues.
  • Emotional maturity and stability to deal with conflict and confrontation in non-violent way and maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, ethnicity, and age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • GBVIMS/ Primero experience high advantage.
