Doctors declare strike, demand arrest of culprits

Hoodlums, yesterday, invaded the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti (EKSUTH), and attacked some doctors on duty. The invaders were said to have been protesting alleged negligence, which led to the death of their relative.

The Guardian learnt that the hoodlums destroyed some facilities at the hospital and allegedly stole a corpse believed to be the relative of one of the hoodlums.

Following the incident, the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the institution directed its members to embark on an indefinite strike with immediate effect.

This was contained in a letter, dated January 15, 2024, titled: ‘Notice of Strike’, addressed to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Kayode Olabanji, and signed by the president of the association, Famous Adeyemi.

The letter reads: “The above-named association writes to notify you of the decision of the emergency congress held today to embark on an indefinite strike with immediate effect.

“This followed the actions of hoodlums who stormed the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital in the early hours of today and assaulted some members of the association, destroyed several hospital equipment and properties, and stole a corpse.”
