Job Title: ICU Nursing Officer  

Location: Benin, Edo

Job Description

  • The ICU nurse provides high quality, patient center care to critically ill patients who require close monitoring and life sustaining interventions.
  • The ICU nurse will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to access, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.

Job Responsibilities

  • Access Patient physical and emotional needs, identifying changes and conditions and responding promptly
  • Manage life sustaining interventions such as mechanical ventilation, cardiac monitoring and hemodynamic support.
  • Administer medication safely and accurately via complex routes ( IV infusion, titration) while monitoring for side effect and interactions.
  • Closely monitor vital signs hourly, reporting changes to the health care team.
  • Work collaboratively with the health care team including physicians, anaesthetist,surgeons, therapist and other specialist and nurses
  • Provide emotional support and education to patient’s family while providing update and counselling.
  • Discuss goal of care and consent for procedures with patients and family.
  • Accurately document patient care including assessment , interventions and outcomes.
  • Respond to emergencies such as cardiac arrest or code blue.
  • Assist with Procedures like central line insertion, chest tube placement, artificial line insertion and other procedures in the ICU Participate in decision making around palliative care and withdrawal of life sustaining therapy.
  • Ensure patient comfort and appropriate sedation level using pain scales and sedation scoring systems.
  • Health and Safety: Carry out duties and responsibilities in compliance with Lily Hospitals’ health and safety policy and statutory regulations
  • Ensure a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for patients, clients, and members of staff to help reduce infection.
  • Ensure staff adheres to patient safety related policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Ensure adherence to all Lily Hospitals ISO certified standards, COHSASA, Kaizen and all other regulatory standards.
  • Comply with all the provisions of Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement Initiative to enhance patient outcome.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum academic qualification of Registered Nurse Certification.
  • 1 - 3 years of relevant work experience in the general nursing experience.
  • Must have Post Basic Diploma in critical care nursing / ICU nursing / anaesthesia and critical care nursing.
  • Must stay updated with the latest evidence based practices and research in critical health care nursing.
  • Must have a BLS and ACLS up to date certification.
  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and must be licensed to practice.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office package Outstanding communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and people management skills.
  • Possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Exhibit professional, interpersonal, and communication skills, critical skill, compassion.
  • Attention to detail and team work.
