Job Description

  • The Intensivist / Intensive Care Specialist will play a pivotal role in our critical care unit, providing expert medical care to patients with severe and life-threatening conditions.
  • The ideal candidate will possess advanced training and expertise in critical care medicine and demonstrate a strong commitment to patient safety, quality of care, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert medical management and oversight of critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), including those with respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, and multi-organ dysfunction.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of patients clinical status, interpret diagnostic tests and monitoring data, and develop individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based guidelines and best practices in critical care medicine.
  • Coordinate and supervise the delivery of advanced life support interventions, mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, and renal replacement therapy to optimize patient outcomes and recovery.
  • Lead and participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds, collaborating closely with ICU nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and integrated care for ICU patients.
  • Conduct timely and effective resuscitation and management of medical emergencies, including cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and neurological deterioration, utilizing advanced resuscitative techniques and protocols.
  • Provide education and mentorship to junior medical staff, residents, and nursing personnel on critical care principles, evidence-based practices, and procedural skills relevant to the ICU setting.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives, clinical research projects, and ongoing professional development activities to enhance the quality, safety, and effectiveness of critical care services at RHV.
  • Adhere to regulatory standards, hospital policies, and ethical guidelines governing critical care practice, patient confidentiality, and professional conduct.

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree from a recognized institution
  • Residency training in Internal Medicine, Anaesthesiology, or Emergency Medicine
  • Fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine or equivalent qualification.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Critical Care Medicine
  • Valid medical license to practice in Nigeria
