LASUTH Holds Virtual Tribute to Honour its Fallen Heroes

The Management of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in conjuction with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCAN), Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) and the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) and other members of the hospital community converged online to pay tribute to their colleagues who passed on in the line of duty on Thursday, 18 February 2021.

The Chief Medical Director, Professor Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, while delivering his opening address said “we have never had it so bad like this, I shed tears when I heard about these deaths, these are people that are well known to me and I am yet to get over these incidents as we speak, this is why we decided to use this avenue to honour our people”.

The CMD welcomed the families of the deceased who were present at the virtual tribute and he commiserated with MDCAN, ARD and JOHESU. He prayed earnestly for the souls of the departed ones to rest at the bossom of the Almighty God and prayed against any more deatths.

Venerable Stephen Adesoye, the Chaplain of the Chapel of Light St. Luke the Physician, LASUTH, offered prayers for the hospital community at large as well as adding that God will continue to support the families of the deceased.

In his tribute to late Dr. Oyedokun Oyedele, the Chairman of MDCAN, Dr. Mumini Amisu described the death of the late Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who spent almost his entire life in the service of LASUTH and Lagos State Government as a rude shock stressing that he was a disciplined doctor who treated his patients with love and respect.

Dr. Mrs. Aderonke Adesiyan delivered a tribute in respect of late Dr. Mrs. Ifeoma Grace Egbunike, describing her as a brilliant medical doctor and a fashionista who joined LASUTH as a LOCUM staff after she retired from the Military Hospital.

In honour of late Dr. Darlington Nwadike, the President of LASUTH ARD, Dr. Azeez Ojekunle described the late Registrar in the Department of Dental Surgery as a jovial, dedicated and brilliant doctor who will be missed in the Association and the hospital at large.

JOHESU chairman, Mr. Rasheed Bamishe described late Mr. Oluwole John Akano as a quiet workaholic and he prayed God to continue to protect his immediate family and the entire LASUTH family.

The tributes were interspersed withhymns rendered by Miss Hadassah and accompanied by Dr. Gbolahan Oyesiku on the Keyboard. The Director of Hospital Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Kehinde Gbajumo thanked the MDCAN, ARD and JOHESU and everyone who attended the virtual tribute, particularly the CMD,Prof Fabamwo; Venerable Adesoye and the families of the deceased staff.

The event came to an end as the Assistant Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Temitope Sikaye gave the closing prayer.
