A reputable hospital in Lagos is looking to employ a Medical Director

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Management

1.         To hold regular documented meetings (at least monthly) with direct report care providers / physicians / consultants etc to discuss systems / patient flow quality, improvements in scheduling, patient and physician relationships and the quality of clinical care being offered.

2.         Participate in senior management meetings to review progress of hospital programmes and contribute to future strategy.

3.         Assist in the professional development and growth of direct reports and other clinicians and identify any organisational clinical development needs and arrange for development interventions.

4.         Assist, regularly review and annually sign off, as approved and updated, the hospital’s clinical policies and other policies required to meet COHSASA and Joint Commission standards.

5.         In conjunction with the GMD and other senior managers, provide guidance to clinical staff to include policies, personnel services, marketing, quality assurance monitoring and education.

 

Marketing

1.         Assist in the development and implementation of marketing and public relations plans.

2.         Promote / ensure patient satisfaction in all areas of patient care delivery.

3.         Represent the hospital at requested functions, presentations, meetings and forums.

 

Quality Improvement

1.         Contribute to the development and maintenance of continuous quality improvement programmes ensuring

a          monitoring and supporting medical quality improvement plan and review processes

b          continuous monitoring and assurance of compliance of physician quality of care

c          completion of regular quality assurance standards reviews

2.         Promote and monitor clinician attendance at clinical, hospital and staff meetings.

3.         Ensure the hospital achieves / passes / meets and maintains quality standards in line with affiliated accrediting bodies

 

Leadership

  1. Develop and support clinical department heads in managing their departments 
  2. Mobilise physician involvement in decision-making and commitment toward implementing organizational goals
  3. Promote continuity of care by facilitating patient flow between levels of care and facilities 

 

Achieving Results

  1. Establish, as part of the management team, priorities, strategies and action plans to achieve stated outcomes, goals and objectives. 
  2. Monitor progress toward the achievement of stated objectives, KPIs and budgets 
  3. Implement policies and practices consistent with corporate objectives 
  4. Advise medical staff on new and current policies, strategic directions, rules, regulations etc and promote compliance with such. 
  5. Recommend policies and guidelines relating to medical/clinical matters consistent with medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS,  Must have MBBS and FWACS in Internal Medicine

EXPERIENCE AND  Experience in management of initiatives using principles of quality management 

KNOWLEDGE           Experience in clinical practice

                                    Must have at least 10 years’ experience post Fellowship

Extensive senior experience in hospital medicine leading multidisciplinary teams

A broad understanding of health care, involvement in acute care and managing the complex issues in the continuum of care are essential 

Knowledge of administrative management and leadership principles 

Knowledge and use of clinical practice/best practice guidelines
