Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist (Microbiology)

Location: Benin City, Edo

Employment Type: Full-time

 

Job Summary

The role is responsible for studying organisms that cause illness, infections, including viruses, bacteria, archaea, fungi, algae and protozoa in patients, diagnosing patients and preventing epidemics in Lily hospitals.

The job holder is also responsible for investigating the causes of contagious diseases and researching new treatments for infections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Observing, monitoring, and identifying microorganisms.
  • Tracking microorganisms across various environments.
  • Collecting, monitoring, and assessing samples from different sources.
  • Using a variety of identification methods, including molecular techniques, to test samples and determine infection-causing organisms.
  • Developing new techniques, products, and processes.
  • Developing and planning methods to prevent the spread of diseases or infections in Lily Hospitals.
  • Evaluating and registering new medicines, vaccines, diagnostic tests, and pharmaceutical products in clinical trials.
  • Developing products such as enzymes, vitamins, hormones, and antimicrobials.
  • Working with specialized computer software to conduct studies and research.
  • Inputting data and maintaining relevant databases.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Maintaining all laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Participate in Lily Hospital infection control committee
  • Any other task as assigned to you by Senior Leadership.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS)
  • Experience: 1-3 years
  • Professional (Memberships/Certifications)
  • A valid license to practice as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
