Job Summary

We are seeking a competent and responsible Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our diagnostic team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory investigations accurately and efficiently, while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, professionalism and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, receive, process and appropriately store patient specimens.
  • Perform laboratory investigations in areas including Haematology, Chemical Pathology, Medical Microbiology, Parasitology and Serology.
  • Perform microscopy, culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing where required.
  • Operate laboratory equipment including microscopes, centrifuges, haematology analyzers and chemistry analyzers.
  • Carry out appropriate quality control procedures and ensure reliability of laboratory results.
  • Review laboratory findings and identify results requiring verification or urgent attention.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, worksheets and laboratory documentation.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and promptly report faults or abnormalities.
  • Ensure proper inventory management of reagents and consumables.
  • Maintain strict infection prevention, biosafety and waste-disposal standards.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, clinicians and other healthcare personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Perform other laboratory-related duties necessary for the efficient operation of the diagnostic centre.

Requirements

  • BMLS/B.MLS or equivalent recognized qualification in Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Valid professional registration/licence to practise.
  • Good practical laboratory and microscopy skills.
  • Ability to work accurately with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use electronic laboratory/patient-record systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, integrity and professional responsibility.
  • Previous experience working in a private diagnostic laboratory will be an advantage.
