Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist

Location: Okota, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

 

Job Description / Responsibilities

• Collect and receive patient specimens, including blood, urine, and other clinical samples.
• Perform laboratory tests using manual techniques and automated analyzers.
• Conduct tests in areas such as:
• Hematology – blood cells and blood disorders
• Clinical chemistry – glucose, electrolytes, liver/kidney tests, etc.
• Microbiology – bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms
• Immunology/serology – antibodies and immune-related tests
• Blood transfusion science – blood grouping, crossmatching, and compatibility testing
• Parasitology – detection of parasites
• Examine and interpret laboratory findings within the scope of professional practice.
• Record and report accurate test results to physicians and other authorized healthcare professionals.
• Perform quality-control procedures and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments as required.
• Follow infection-control, biosafety, and waste-disposal procedures.
• Maintain accurate patient and laboratory records.
• Ensure reagents, supplies, and specimens are properly stored and handled.
• Participate in quality assurance, audits, and laboratory improvement activities.
• Keep up to date with laboratory procedures, technology, and professional standards.
• Work collaboratively with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science
• Professional registration/licensure where required.
• Relevant clinical or laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of laboratory information systems and diagnostic equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
