Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist

Job Summary

  • The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory tests to produce and interpret results to assist clinicians in diagnosing and treating disease.
  • You will also ensure the accuracy of laboratory results, and assist in Diagnosis, Treatment, and Stock Inventory.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Examining and analyzing body fluids, tissues, and cells
  • Identifying potentially harmful microorganisms
  • Analyzing the chemical makeup of body fluids using computer-aided and manual techniques
  • Responsible for receiving, storing, and preparing various kinds of specimens including blood samples for analysis.
  • Evaluating test results for accuracy and preparing reports for physicians
  • Helping interpret test results for physicians and patients
  • Using complex computer systems for data entry, retrieval, and analysis
  • Ensuring laboratory quality control and safety standards throughout the laboratory
  • Prepare standard volumetric solutions or reagents to be combined with specimens
  • Cross-match blood for transfusion
  • Guide and supervise junior staff and technicians
  • Supervising inventory Convey relevant details of the procedures directly to patients in a clear, concise, and understandable manner.
  • Data inputting and maintenance of the relevant database.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of the Laboratory and report to the Team lead.
  • Supervise junior colleagues as directed by the Team Lead
  • Adhere to the laboratory room dress code and neat appearance.
  • Report machine downtime to the team lead promptly and escalate where necessary
  • Apply and ensure all standard legislation, policies, and procedures correctly to own work.
  • Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting all laboratory instrumentations and equipment.
  • Identify with other team members the risks and priorities for improving the service, making constructive suggestions for improvement
  • Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue following applicable laws, standards, or policies.
  • Ensure a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for patients, clients, and staff members.
  • Comply with all the provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019
