The Katsina State Hospitals Services Management Board was first established by Kaduna State Government via edict No. 7 of 1978. The same edict was modified and adapted under CAP 63 of the laws of Katsina State of Nigeria. In 1993, the Board was merged with the State Ministry of Health through an Executive order. However, it was reactivated on 30th March, 1998 operate autonomously, with a Governing Board under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. The Board has under control all staff at the Headquarters, State Medical store, Government House Clinic, Psychiatric Hospital as well as all those working at the 18 General Hospital in the Katsina, Daura, Funtua, Malumdfashi, Mani, Kankia, Dutsinma, Batsari, Baure, Babbaruga, Rimi, Ingawa, Musawa, Kankara and Danmusa.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician

Location: Katsina

Job Description

• The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine laboratory investigations to support clinical diagnosis and patient care within KTHSMB healthcare facilities.
• The role involves collecting and processing samples, conducting tests, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring quality control and biosafety standards.
• The technician will work under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist to ensure timely, accurate, and reliable laboratory results.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect, label, and process patient specimens (blood, urine, etc.)
• Perform routine laboratory tests in hematology, microbiology, and biochemistry
• Prepare reagents and maintain laboratory supplies
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality control procedures
• Adhere to biosafety and infection prevention protocols
• Record and report test results accurately
• Maintain laboratory records and documentation
• Assist in sample storage and disposal according to standards
• Support laboratory scientists and clinicians in diagnostic processes

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field
• Basic laboratory testing and sample handling skills
• Knowledge of biosafety and infection control
• Good attention to detail and accuracy
• Relevant experience.
