Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria Notice on Introduction of Mandatory Attachment Programme for Foreign Trained Medical and Dental Graduates

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) hereby informs all Foreign Trained Medical and Dental Graduates, Parents and Guardians, other Stakeholders and the General Public that with effect from December 2021, intending candidates for Council's Assessment Examination will be required to undergo a six-month mandatory attachment programme before they can be eligible to sit for the MDCN pre-registration examination. 

The first Attachment Programme will start in January and end in June 2022 while subsequent ones will be fixed and advertised accordingly. 

A. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 

i) The programme shall be for candidates trained in ALL Countries (other than Nigeria) and whose training institutions are currently listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (www.wdoms.org)

ii) Candidates must hold medical/dental degrees of approved medical and dental training institutions that shall be verified by Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPIC).

iii) Candidates will be required to provide evidence of eligibility to practice medicine/dentistry in their individual Country of training. A current practising license and a Certificate of Good Standing from the Country's medical/dental regulatory authority (not from the Training Institution) shall be required. 

B. REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION 

i. Registration is to be done through MDCN website www.mdcn.gov.ng click on 'Education' and select 'Application for Foreign Trained Attachment Programme' 

ii Candidates are required to pay N10,000.00 Administrative fee using the link in (i) above and attached the following: Photocopies of all relevant academic qualifications i.e GCE/SSCE/NECO or its equivalent (with five (5) credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than two sittings) and medical/dental degree certificate.

iii. Relevant portions of International Passport (Visa & Departure pages). 

iv. Colour passport – size photograph 

v. Birth certificate or statutory declaration of age. 

C. TEACHING HOSPITALS SELECTED FOR THE ATTACHMENT PROGRAMME MEDICINE 

i. South-West: Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State 

ii. South-East: Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, Enugu State 

iii. South-South: University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Rivers State 

iv. North-Central: University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State 

v. North-West: Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, Kano State 

vi. North-East: University of Maiduguri Teaching Maiduguri, Borno State 

DENTISTRY 

University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State. 

Each Candidate will be required to choose three centers during registration, out of which Council will post him/her, on the first come first served basis, to one centre based on order of preference and availability. In the event that none of the choices is available, Council reserves the right to post the candidate to any other available center. Details of candidate's posting will be contained in posting letter. 

Eligibility for the Council's Assessment Examination will be based on confirmation of a minimum of '75% attendance at the Attachment Programme.

D. NON-REFUNDABLE TRAINING FEES FOR THE ATTACHMENT PROGRAMME 

(1) Nigerian Citizens - N900,000.00 

(2) Non-Nigerian Citizens - N 1,400,000.00 

(3) Other charges (Dental materials for dental candidates only) - N200,000.00 

Please note that accommodation will be provided by the Training Institution, for rental. Payments for the programme as stated above and the additional cost of accommodation will be made to the Training Institution. Payment details will also be contained in the posting letter. 

F. INELIGIBILITY FOR THE ATTACHMENT PROGRAMME 

i) Medical/Dental students yet to be fully released by their Universities need not apply. 

ii) Applicants without all required credentials. 

iii) Applicants from medical/dental schools not listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS).

Registration closes on 22nd December 2021
