Job Description
- We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Mental Health Nurse to provide clinical and therapeutic support in an addiction recovery rehabilitation center in Abuja.
- The Mental Health Nurse will play a central role in assessing residents’ health needs, managing withdrawal symptoms, administering medications, and supporting overall mental and emotional wellbeing throughout the recovery process.
Responsibilities
- Conduct initial health assessments for new residents and maintain up-to-date medical records.
- Monitor residents’ physical and mental health, including signs of withdrawal, relapse risk, or crisis.
- Administer prescribed medications and ensure compliance with treatment plans.
- Provide daily health checks, first aid, and emergency medical response when required.
- Collaborate with counselors, support staff, and other professionals to deliver holistic care.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans alongside the clinical team.
- Educate residents on medication use, self-care practices, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Maintain accurate documentation of treatments, incidents, and progress.
- Participate in staff meetings, case reviews, and contribute to program development.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current license to practice in Nigeria (Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria – NMCN).
- Post-basic qualification or training in psychiatric/mental health nursing is required.
- Minimum of 2 – 3 years’ experience in mental health, addiction recovery, or related healthcare settings.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR is an added advantage.
- Must be able to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

- Knowledge of substance use disorders, detox protocols, and relapse prevention strategies.
- Ability to handle crisis situations, apply de-escalation techniques, and provide trauma-informed care.
- Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills for working with vulnerable individuals.
