Job Title: Microbiologist

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Description  

Our client is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Microbiologist to join our laboratory team in Port Harcourt. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting microbiological analyses of water, environmental, food, and petroleum-related samples to ensure they meet safety and regulatory standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological testing on a wide range of samples including water, effluents, soil, and product surfaces.
  • Identify, isolate, and quantify microbial contaminants using appropriate techniques (e.g., culture, staining, microscopy, biochemical testing).
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as autoclaves, incubators, laminar flow hoods, and colony counters.
  • Prepare culture media and ensure proper sterilization and storage procedures are followed.
  • Record, analyze, and report findings accurately and timely in line with standard operating procedures and client requirements.
  • Maintain and update laboratory records, data sheets, and logbooks in accordance with regulatory standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025).
  • Assist in method development and validation for new microbiological testing procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory safety, hygiene, and quality control protocols.
  • Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, or related life sciences.
  • 1–3 year experience in a microbiology or environmental laboratory (industrial experience preferred).
  • Strong understanding of microbiological techniques and standards (e.g., APHA, ISO, ASTM methods).
  • Familiarity with quality systems and documentation, especially ISO 17025.
  • Proficiency in lab equipment handling and microbial identification.
  • Excellent observational, analytical, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

 

Salary

N210,000 monthly.
