Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious international aid organization. Our teams are committed to supporting civilians’ victims of marginalization and exclusion, or hit by natural disasters, wars and economic collapses, by answering their fundamental needs. Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency. PUI has been operating in Nigeria since 2016, initially establishing its presence in Borno State with a field office in Maiduguri.
Over the years, PUI has expanded its humanitarian response to deep-field locations, including Monguno and Pulka, and more recently to Katsina State in Northwest Nigeria. In Borno State, PUI has been a key actor in health, nutrition, protection, and psychosocial support. It supports health facilities in Maiduguri, Monguno, and Pulka, providing primary healthcare services, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and the management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), both with and without complications, through Stabilization Centers. These interventions are integrated with specialized Gender-Based Violence (GBV) services and psychosocial support.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Midwife
Location: Monguno, Borno

General Objectives
- Under the supervision of the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Supervisor, the Midwife plays a vital role in providing Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH)/SRH care services, including Antenatal Care (ANC), Postnatal Care (PNC), Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (BEmONC), and family planning.
- Working in challenging humanitarian settings, s/he ensures high-quality obstetric care by conducting both normal and complicated deliveries, managing reproductive health concerns such as sexual violence, reproductive tract infections, and neonatal care, and maintaining strict hygiene standards.
- In collaboration with doctors and healthcare teams, s/he adheres to PUI protocols and national/international guidelines to ensure continuity of care, efficient use of medical resources, and availability of essential drugs and equipment.
Responsibilities and Taskpatient Care
- Prepare all necessary materials and ensure readiness before starting activities.
- Implement and ensure continuity of antenatal and postnatal care, performing screening tests, detecting risk factors, and providing appropriate follow-ups.
- Conduct normal deliveries independently, manage obstetric emergencies, and identify cases requiring referral to specialized care.
- Provide family planning consultations and counseling, ensuring contraceptive provision according to patient needs.
- Administer systematic prophylactic treatments, including tetanus vaccinations, to pregnant women.
- Treat sick Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) per established therapeutic protocols.
- Identify and manage Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) cases, ensuring appropriate medical interventions and referrals.
- Maintain infection control standards, ensuring hygiene, sterilization, and biomedical equipment maintenance.
- Guarantee a steady supply of drugs and medical equipment, monitoring stock levels for maternity activities.
- Conduct individual health promotion sessions during consultations and educate patients in waiting areas.
- Supervise administrative procedures, ensuring patient confidentiality and accurate medical documentation.
- Ensure proper ward organization, facilitating seamless patient care and effective shift handovers.
Management of an Efficient Referal System:
- Manage the emergency and electives referral cases according to the referral protocol by facilitating the logistics including transportation means, appointment with specialists, laboratory tests etc. in collaboration with SRH supervisor
- Oversee emergency and elective referrals, ensuring proper logistics, transportation, and specialist coordination.
- Follow up referred cases to assess outcomes and ensure appropriate continuing care.
- Identify and refer patients needing mental health consultation, facilitating timely intervention.
Medical Data Collection and Reporting:
- Accurately document clinical case management, including history-taking, diagnosis, treatment, and investigations.
- Track epidemiological trends, drug consumption, and inventory levels, ensuring efficient resource utilization.
- Contribute to weekly medical statistics reports and overall health needs assessments.
- Conduct clear verbal and written handovers, emphasizing key patient conditions and critical interventions.
- Report gaps, losses, damages, or operational issues related to medical equipment and supplies to supervisors.
Internal and External Representation:
- Participate actively in professional training and capacity-building programs to improve technical skills and healthcare efficiency.
- Engage in coordination meetings, ensuring smooth collaboration between SRH, Health and Nutrition Supervisors, and other stakeholders.
- Adhere to infection-control protocols, medication administration standards, and biomedical equipment regulations.
- Supervise the rational use of drugs, medical facilities, and obstetric materials, ensuring compliance with treatment protocols.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors, adapting to evolving healthcare needs.
Requirements
- Interested candidates should possess relevant qualifications with 2 - 10 years work experience.
Salary
N454,626 Monthly.
