The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has registered about 110,000 medical and dental graduates to practice the profession in 61 years.
This was announced by the MDCN Deputy Registrar, Dr Victor Gbenro, who represented the Registrar Dr Fatima Kyari at the second induction of the 26 batch of medical graduates trained by the Gregory University Uturu (GUU) in Abia State. Gbenro said that induction of medicine graduates is a statutory responsibility, which the MDCN, as the regulatory body must perform before any graduate doctor goes into professional practice and begins 12 months probation.
He commended the university for producing 45 medical doctors, fulfilling all statutory and professional stipulations set for the training of medical doctors and tasked the graduates to abide by the council’s ethics or risk being delisted from the register of Nigeria licensed medical practitioners.
He said that the MDCN is updating its register and developing a Draft Policy Document that will guide all practitioners.
