Season greetings!
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has observed that Nurses who graduated from Post Basic Nursing Programmes prior to Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria's (NMCN) accreditation of the Programme, apply for registration with the Council after four weeks' refresher course without writing the professional examination for such specialty.
In order to maintain standard in Nursing education and practice, the Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria at its 52nd General Meeting held December, 2020 approved that Nurses who graduated from Programmes prior to Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria's accreditation of the Programme and have not been registered by the Council shall henceforth (January, 2021) be required to:
- Undergo four (4) weeks refresher course in any Council's approved School offering such specialty programme.
- Apply and be indexed by the Council.
- Sit for Council's professional examination in that specialty.
- Apply for registration with the Council in that specialty if successful in the Professional Examination for Post Basic Nurses.
Please note that any Post Basic Nursing Programme of less than one year (12 months) is not eligible for four (4) weeks refresher course.
Kindly bring the content of this circular to all concerned.
Thank you for your cooperation with the Council in promoting and maintaining Excellence in Nursing Education and Practice in Nigeria in line with global best practice.
Signed:
Faruk Umar Abubakar FWACN
