No fewer than 500 people, including women, children and the aged, have benefitted from a free medical outreach conducted by members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Zalanga community in Ganjuwa LGA of Bauchi State.

Speaking during the flag-off of the one-day exercise, the state’s Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, explained that the outreach was initiated under the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) designed to enhance access to quality healthcare service delivery in hard-to-reach-and-rural communities across the country.

She said that the ailments attended to were malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diarrhoea, cholera, and diabetes, among others.

Rifkatu noted that any other ailment that could not be handled by the corps’ medical volunteers would be referred to more competent hospitals.

The Village Head of Zalanga, Alhaji Yusuf, said the outreach would significantly address the health challenges of the people of the area, adding that the intervention would also go a long way in assisting the people from neighbouring villages.
