Nigerian Dental Association Notice of Postponement of 53rd Biennial General Meeting/Scientific Conference

Posted on: Sat 23-05-2020

Esteemed Colleagues,

I bring you warm greetings from the President and entire NEC of our dear association. A few months ago, the President Dr. Eshikena O. Evelyn, set up an organizing committee to oversee the planning and execution of the 53rd Biennial General Meeting / Scientific Conference, with a mandate to ensure the event takes place in July 2020.

The Committee swung into action and proposed 30th and 31st July 2020 as dates for the program. The committee also came up with a theme for the program, shortlisted likely venues, selected topics/speakers for the scientific session, initiated fund raising activities with our event planner (Dok/Unik) etc.

Unfortunately, all preparations were put on hold by the end of March 2020 following the outbreak of Corona Virus (COVID-19) and associated restrictions put in place by the federal and state governments in a bid to curtail the spread.

As a result this global pandemic and its negative impact on all activities, the president after consultation with the NDC, has directed that our Biennial General Meeting / Scientific Conference initially proposed to hold on the 30th and 31st of July 2020 in Lagos, be postponed to October 2020.

The choice of October 2020, is with the hope that normally would have been restored before them, to allow for large group meetings. This new date also concludes with the expiration of the constitutionally approved term of 2 years for all elected National Officers.

Recall that the present NDA leadership was inaugurated on the 26th of October 2018, for a term of 2 years and eligible for re-election of another term as enshrined in section 6 of the current NDA constitution.

While we pray and remain optimistic about the feasibility of the new date, we shall continue to closely monitor developments in our nation and engage with stakeholders in making decisions in the best interest of our association.

All NDA members are encouraged to remain safety conscious and adhere strictly to guidelines released by NDA and NCDC in their various practices. By the special grace of the almighty, we shall all come out of this Covid-19 pandemic better and stronger.

With best regards,

Signed

Dr. Victor I/ Nwabudike

Secretary General NDA
