Gynescope Specialist Hospital, based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State specializes in fertility and minimal access surgery in Nigeria.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Nursing Officer

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Employment Type: Full-time

Responsibilities  

  • The job holder is responsible for the daily functional operation of the obstetric unit, delivery of patient/customer quality care, staff development and continuous quality improvement activities.

Medical Functions

  • Perform professional nursing care to patient admitted in the obstetric and Gynecology unit.
  • Perform on admission assessment, review patient history and develop a plan of care for the patients using the nursing process format on EMR.
  • Initiate fetal heart monitor, perform vaginal examination and interpret fetal heart rate.
  • Determine frequency duration and intensity of contractions.
  • Monitor progress of labour which include mother and fetal wellbeing and notify obstetrician when appropriate for progress or problem.
  • Prepare patient for elective or emergency cesarean section by following Lily hospital’s written C-Section protocol
  • Administer care during labour such as vaginal examination, augmentation/induction of labour and relief of pains as prescribed by obstetrician.
  • Coordinate the smooth transfer of surgical cases by providing emotional support to patients and obtaining proper obtaining proper consents, and ensure pre-op diagnostic test are available before transferring patient to theatre.
  • Perform immediate post-delivery care of mother and baby, record APGAR scores, apply ID band to the baby for proper identification and document baby’s statistic.
  • Prepare labour room for delivery and ensure aseptic technique in place
  • Ensure medication and treatment of patients are administered according to the physician’s order and medication policy and protocol.

Patient Care:

  • Educate delivered mothers on post-natal care.
  • Education and counseling patients on sexual health, birth control choices and safe practices
  • Educate the patient on proper nutrition and appropriate exercises
  • Provide essential information to assist new mothers on breastfeeding, care of baby, and episiotomy/perineal tear.

Administration Duties:

  • Ensure proper documentation of patient’s care, partograph, and baby birth certificate in an appropriate manner.
  • Responsible for patient discharge planning.
  • Ensure the unit is stocked with a standard level of consumable supplies, medications and equipment.

Health and Safety:

  • Carry out duties and responsibilities in compliance with the hospitals’ health and safety policy and statutory regulations.
  • Ensure a clean, comfortable and safe environment for patients, clients and members of staff.

The Person

  • Minimum academic qualification of a Registered Nurse (RN) and Registered Midwife (RM) or Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSC.)
  • 1-5 years relevant work experience in healthcare sector
  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigerian and must be licensed to practice as Registered Nurse or Midwife.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office package.
  • Outstanding communication (oral or written), interpersonal and people management skills
  • Possess high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Nursing Practice Acts
  • Knowledge of safety and injection con troll practices.

Salary

  • N50,000 - N100,000 / month.
  • Salary in line with industry standard.
