Job Title: Obstetrician Gynaecologist (OBGYN)

Location: Jahun, Jigawa

Contract: 208 working hours per month

Contract Type: Fixed Term

 

Description

Currently, MSF France is co operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, State and Local government departments of health on various projects.

Our current focus is a VVF and maternity response in Jahun, Jigawa state, and Malaria and Nutrition response in Katsina state with its coordination office in Abuja, Nigeria.

Main Purpose

  • The Obstetrician Gynaecologist will provide comprehensive gynecological and obstetric care, including preventive, diagnostic, emergency, and surgical services, in line with MSF clinical protocols and universal hygiene standards.
  • The role aims to improve women’s reproductive health outcomes and reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality through multidisciplinary teamwork.

Job Description

  • Deliver high quality gynecological and obstetric care, including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal services
  • Provide emergency obstetric care, including management of complicated deliveries and surgical procedures (e.g. caesarean sections, instrumental deliveries, uterine aspiration/curettage)
  • Conduct daily ward rounds in maternity, hospitalization wards, and ICU in collaboration with medical, anesthesia, and midwifery teams
  • Assess new admissions and ensure appropriate clinical management and documentation
  • Participate in on call duties and provide bedside supervision, coaching, and training to medical and midwifery staff
  • Ensure implementation of MSF clinical guidelines, protocols, and tools related to obstetrics and gynecology
  • Contribute to maternal mortality and near miss reviews, data collection, and clinical audits
  • Support supervision of gynecological staff HR processes, including training and performance follow up, as required
  • Oversee rational use, maintenance, and availability of gynecological equipment, drugs, and pharmacy stock in collaboration with pharmacy and logistics teams
  • Work collaboratively with national and expatriate doctors, consultants, and referral hospitals

Requirements

Education

  • Essential: Specialist Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynecology (mandatory)
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years certified professional experience as an OBGYN
  • Desirable: Previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries.

Languages:

  • Essential: Mission language English
  • Desirable: Local language Hausa, Fulani
  • Competencies: Results Teamwork Flexibility Commitment Stress management
  • Knowledge (Essential): computer literacy (word, excel).

Remuneration

  • According to MSF salary scale plus 13th month allowance equivalent to 1 month of gross salary.
