We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Ophthalmic Nurse

Locations: Abuja (FCT) and Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

 

Summary

  • An ophthalmic nurse's responsibilities include assisting with eye exams, administering treatments and medications, patient education on eye health, pre-operative preparation, and meticulous record-keeping.
  • Key requirements are a registered ophthalmic nurse qualification, a valid ophthalmic nursing license, and excellent communication skills, with a strong emphasis on compassion and attention to detail.

 

Job Responsibilities

Patient Care & Assessment:

  • Recording medical histories and symptoms.
  • Measuring visual acuity and intraocular pressure.
  • Monitoring vital signs.

 

Clinical Procedures:

  • Assisting the ophthalmologist with exams and treatments.
  • Administering eye drops and other ophthalmic treatments.
  • Conducting special clinical investigations like fundus photography or biometry.
  • Preparing patients for eye surgery or other procedures.

 

Patient Education:

  • Providing information and advice on eye health.
  • Counselling patients on their condition and management plans.
  • Educating patients and families on post-procedure care.
  • Documentation & Administration:
  • Maintaining accurate and updated patient records.
  • Coordinating with other departments and staff for patient care.
  • Completing necessary documentation according to policy.
  • Equipment & Environment:
  • Operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment.
  • Ensuring the clinical environment is clean and organized.

 

Job Requirements

  • Education: An ophthalmic nursing qualification (e.g., ophthalmic nursing degree) is essential.
  • Licensure: A valid ophthalmic nursing license is a must-have.
  • Experience: 3 years prior experience as a nurse, particularly in ophthalmology, is often required.

 

Skills:

  • Clinical skills: Ability to perform essential eye tests and administer treatments.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
