Team Purpose
- The Clinical Services Unit ensures delivery of high-quality HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support services in accordance with national guidelines and donor requirements.
- The unit provides technical assistance, mentorship, supportive supervision, performance monitoring, and quality improvement to strengthen PMTCT and broader HIV service delivery across supported facilities.
Job Purpose
- The incumbent will coordinate and provide technical support for PMTCT and elimination of vertical transmission services across supported facilities within Okene Command, strengthening maternal HIV testing and ART, retention in care, Early Infant Diagnosis (EID), HIV-exposed infant (HEI) follow-up, mother–infant pair outcomes, and service quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilties
- Provide technical support and oversight for PMTCT services across supported facilities within the command.
- Strengthen HIV testing, linkage, ART initiation, adherence, retention, and viral load monitoring among pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV.
- Support identification, enrollment, and longitudinal follow-up of HIV-exposed infants and mother–infant pairs.
- Strengthen EID services, including timely sample collection, result return, documentation, and linkage of HIV-positive infants to ART.
- Support implementation of elimination of vertical transmission interventions in accordance with national guidelines.
- Conduct supportive supervision, mentorship, case reviews, and capacity building for healthcare workers providing PMTCT services.
- Monitor PMTCT performance indicators, identify gaps, and support facility-specific corrective and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) interventions.
- Strengthen documentation, data quality, and concurrence across relevant PMTCT source documents and reporting systems.
- Strengthen linkages between ANC, labor and delivery, postnatal, immunization, pediatric HIV, laboratory, pharmacy, and community services.
- Support tracking and re-engagement of mother–infant pairs who miss appointments or interrupt treatment.
- Collaborate with facility management, government counterparts, community structures, and other technical teams to strengthen PMTCT outcomes.
- Prepare timely technical reports and track identified service delivery gaps through resolution.
Key Performance Areas
- PMTCT HIV testing, linkage, and ART coverage among pregnant and breastfeeding women.
- Maternal ART retention and viral load coverage/suppression.
- EID coverage, timely sample collection, result return, and ART initiation for HIV-positive infants.
- Completeness and continuity of HEI and mother–infant pair follow-up.
- Reduction in missed appointments and interruption in treatment among PMTCT clients.
- Quality and completeness of PMTCT documentation and data reporting.
- Effectiveness of supportive supervision, mentorship, and CQI interventions.
- Timely identification and resolution of facility-level PMTCT performance gaps.
- Strengthened integration of PMTCT within maternal, newborn, child health and broader HIV services.
- Quality, completeness, and timeliness of command-level PMTCT reports.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Medicine (MBBS) or Nursing/Midwifery, or other relevant clinical discipline from a recognized institution, with appropriate professional registration and practicing license.
- Relevant experience in HIV clinical services, preferably PMTCT, maternal and child health, or related programming.
- Good understanding of PMTCT, maternal ART, EID, HEI follow-up, viral load monitoring, and pediatric HIV services.
- Experience in supportive supervision, mentorship, performance monitoring, and quality improvement is desirable.
- Ability to interpret routine program data and support development of corrective interventions.
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with electronic medical records.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Experience working within government health systems or donor-supported HIV programs will be an advantage.
