Elela-Care Humanitarian and Development Organization (ECM) is a youth-led, non-governmental organization dully registered with Nigerian government through Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC/IT NO: 182167). Existing since June 2022, ECM focuses on improving the quality of life of vulnerable population across communities in North East Nigeria. ECM operates both in emergency and developmental context and have its programme principally rooted in identifying gaps that affects population or increases vulnerability of population and bridging those gaps through resource base planning and implementation.

Job Summary

The Nutrition Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation and management of the emergency nutrition programme, with strong focus on the Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP) for severe acute malnutrition (SAM), Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) treatment using the Tom Brown approach, Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN), and nutrition surveillance.

The role involves direct oversight of OTP sites, community-based structures, and integration of nutrition with protection activities to improve access and quality of services for conflict-affected populations.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the setup, daily management, and supervision of Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP) sites
  • Ensure high-quality screening, admission, treatment, and discharge of SAM children in line with national CMAM guidelines
  • Facilitate MIYCN counselling sessions, especially for pregnant and lactating women and caregivers of children under 5
  • Support MAM treatment using the Tom Brown complementary feeding approach
  • Conduct regular supportive supervision and on-the-job training for Health Workers, Nutrition Assistants, and Community Nutrition Mobilizers (CNMs)
  • Carry out weekly field visits to all OTP and CMAM sites to monitor service quality and data accuracy
  • Ensure timely procurement, distribution, and stock management of nutrition supplies (RUTF, RUSF, therapeutic foods, etc.)
  • Participate in nutrition coordination meetings at LGA and state levels
  • Support nutrition surveillance, MUAC screening, and rapid assessments
  • Document lessons learned and prepare high-quality weekly and monthly reports (including 5Ws) for the Nutrition Manager and donors
  • Represent ECM in nutrition cluster meetings and stakeholder engagements.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Community Health, or related field (Master’s Degree is an added advantage)
  • Minimum of 2 – 3 years experience in CMAM/OTP programming in emergency or humanitarian settings
  • Strong knowledge of national CMAM guidelines and OTP protocols
  • Experience in MIYCN and community-based nutrition interventions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Ability to speak Kanuri or Hausa is a strong advantage
  • Previous experience with NGOs in Borno State is highly desirable
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and gender-sensitive programming.
