Job Description

  • We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Accident and Emergency Nurse to join our team at Redeemers Health Village (RHV).
  • The Accident and Emergency Nurse will be responsible for delivering high-quality emergency nursing care to patients presenting with a wide range of acute medical and traumatic conditions.
  • This role requires strong clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment and Triage:

  • Conduct rapid and comprehensive assessments of patients presenting to the accident and emergency (A&E) department, prioritizing care based on the severity of their condition.
  • Utilize triage protocols and clinical judgment to accurately categorize patients into appropriate triage levels, ensuring timely intervention for critically ill or injured patients.

Emergency Care:

  • Provide immediate nursing interventions and treatments to stabilize patients with acute medical emergencies, trauma, or life-threatening conditions.
  • Perform advanced procedures and interventions as required, including resuscitation, advanced airway management, and emergency medication administration.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, including physicians, surgeons, and allied health professionals, to coordinate emergent care and optimize patient outcomes.

Patient Advocacy and Support:

  • Advocate for patients needs and rights, ensuring they receive compassionate, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered care throughout their emergency department visit.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing explanations of procedures, treatment plans, and discharge instructions in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Offer emotional support and reassurance to patients and families during times of crisis, demonstrating empathy, compassion, and professionalism.

Documentation and Communication:

  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in electronic medical records (EMR) or paper charts.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, providing concise and timely handovers, progress updates, and pertinent information during shift changes and patient transfers.
  • Participate in interprofessional rounds, case conferences, and debriefing sessions to discuss patient cases, share insights, and identify opportunities for improvement.

Quality Improvement and Safety:

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits to enhance the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of emergency nursing care.
  • Adhere to evidence-based guidelines, protocols, and best practices in emergency nursing, promoting a culture of patient safety and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and report adverse events, near misses, and opportunities for improvement in patient care processes, contributing to a culture of transparency and learning.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with valid licensure from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
  • Bachelor of Science / HND in Nursing, with specialized training or certification in emergency nursing preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in accident and emergency nursing, preferably in a hospital or trauma center setting.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required; Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in emergency nursing practices, including rapid assessment, prioritization, and intervention.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to rapidly recognize and respond to changes in patients' conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members and communicate compassionately with patients and families.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and organized in high-stress situations, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in the face of emergencies.
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice in emergency nursing.
