Overview

  • We are seeking a skilled and compassionate ICU Nurse to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team at Redeemers Health Village (RHV).
  • The ICU Nurse will be responsible for delivering specialized nursing care to critically ill patients requiring intensive monitoring, advanced interventions, and comprehensive support.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment and Monitoring:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of critically ill patients admitted to the ICU, including ongoing monitoring of vital signs, neurological status, and hemodynamic parameters.
  • Utilize advanced monitoring equipment and technology to assess patients' responses to treatment, detect changes in condition, and intervene promptly to prevent deterioration.

Critical Care Interventions:

  • Perform advanced nursing interventions and procedures as needed, including airway management, mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic support, and administration of vasoactive medications.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans, incorporating evidence-based practices and best clinical judgment.

Medication Administration and Management:

  • Administer medications and intravenous therapies to critically ill patients, ensuring accurate dosing, proper titration, and monitoring for adverse effects.
  • Monitor medication infusions, including sedatives, analgesics, and vasopressors, to maintain therapeutic levels and optimize patient comfort and stability.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

  • Communicate effectively with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare team members to coordinate patient care, discuss treatment plans, and facilitate interdisciplinary rounds.
  • Participate actively in patient care conferences, case reviews, and debriefing sessions to evaluate patient progress, identify opportunities for improvement, and promote a collaborative approach to care delivery.

Patient and Family Support:

  • Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families, explaining treatment options, procedures, and expected outcomes in a compassionate and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Foster a therapeutic and supportive environment in the ICU, advocating for patients' needs and preferences while respecting their autonomy and dignity.

Documentation and Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive electronic medical records (EMR) of all patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes, adhering to regulatory standards and organizational policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and research projects to enhance the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of ICU nursing care, contributing insights and recommendations for practice improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with valid licensure from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent degree, with specialized training or certification in critical care nursing (e.g., Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in intensive care nursing, preferably in a hospital setting with a dedicated ICU.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in critical care nursing practices, including advanced assessment, intervention, and monitoring techniques for critically ill patients.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize care and respond rapidly to changes in patients' conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members and communicate empathetically with patients and families.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous learning, and professional development in critical care nursing.
