St. Dominic Catholic Hospital is a 64-bed hospital located in Ogungbade off New Ife road in Ibadan. St. Dominic Catholic Hospital is the vision of the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena (Italy). We offer various medical services such as: General medicine, internal medicine, O & G, Laboratory, and Radiology, to mention just a few. The hospital is run in collaboration with foreign partners. We are registered and licensed by the Corporate Affairs Commission and the Ministry of Health. Also, we are accredited by the NHIS as both primary and secondary health care providers.

We are  recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Sonographer

Location: Ibadan, Oyo

Job Summary

The Medical Sonographer is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations to aid in patient diagnosis and management, ensuring patient safety, equipment care, and compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • Perform abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, small parts, vascular, and Doppler ultrasound scans.
  • Explain procedure to patients, obtain informed consent, and ensure patient comfort and privacy.
  • Optimize ultrasound machine settings for best image quality - ALARA principle.
  • Produce detailed sonographic reports with findings and measurements for Radiologist review.
  • Identify urgent/emergency findings and promptly escalate to Radiologist/Clinician.
  • Assist Radiologists during interventional procedures e.g. ultrasound-guided aspirations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of scans, reports, and patient records on RIS/PACS.

Patient Safety & Quality Care:

  • Adhere to infection prevention and control - disinfection of probes between patients.
  • Screen for allergies, contraindications before any procedure.
  • Ensure correct patient identification using 2 identifiers before every scan.
  • Practice radiation safety where applicable and general workplace safety.

Equipment & Maintenance:

  • Daily cleaning, quality control checks and calibration of ultrasound machines - e.g. Siemens Acuson NX2.
  • Report equipment faults immediately and log in maintenance register.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and availability of ultrasound probes and gel.
  • Liaise with Biomedical Engineering and external service engineers - e.g. Biostadt.

Administrative / HMO & Insurance:

  • Verify scan request forms for completeness and clinical justification.
  • Ensure scan documentation is complete for HMO/insurance claims processing.
  • Support HMO desk officers in coding and billing for ultrasound procedures.

Teamwork & Professional Development:

  • Work collaboratively with Radiographers, Nurses, Doctors, and Front Desk officers.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, CME, and quality improvement audits.
  • Train interns and junior staff when assigned.

Qualification & Experience

Essential Requirements:

  • BSc. or B.Rad in Medical Radiography / Sonography or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-NYSC clinical experience as a Sonographer.
  • Registered with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria - RRBN.
  • Valid practicing license from RRBN.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate Diploma or Certification in Ultrasound - e.g. Obstetric & Gynaecological Ultrasound.
  • Experience with Doppler, TVS, and interventional ultrasound.
  • Experience working in a private hospital with HMO operations.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in all general ultrasound modalities.
  • Excellent patient communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and diagnostic accuracy.
  • Good knowledge of infection control and equipment maintenance.
  • Computer literate - able to use PACS, RIS, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage high patient load.
  • Ethical, professional, and empathetic attitude.

Salary

N300,000 - N400,000 monthly.
