Three Doctors Test Positive In Nasarawa, Says NMA

No fewer than three doctors have tested positive for the COVID-19 in Nasarawa State. The Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, Nasarawa State branch, D. Bulus Peter Umaru, stated this on Thursday, while  urging the Nasarawa State Government to hasten in approving and implementing the payment of hazard allowance to health workers.

He said, “Three medical doctors in Nasarawa State have contracted the coronavirus disease in the course of their work of dealing with patients. “The doctors are now on admission at an isolation centre at the Federal Medical Center and are responding to treatment.”

He urged the NMA members and other health workers to observe personal and environmental hygiene and guard against contracting the disease. Meanwhile, no fewer than four persons have been confirmed dead of coronavirus as 90 tested positive of the pandemic in the Nasarawa State.

The state governor, Abdullahi Sule, who disclosed this in Government House, Lafia in a review meeting on Thursday, said the state had been ranked among the top 20 in the federation. He said, “About 705 samples were taken and 90 persons have been confirmed positive of the pandemic in the state.” “We have lost four people so far.”

Also,  1,924 persons have been arrested, while 97 have been charged to court for violating the ban on interstate movements targeted at containing the spread of COVID-29 in Nasarawa State. The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Bola Longe, revealed this shortly after an expanded security meeting at the Government House, Lafia, the state’s capital on Thursday.

He said, “Also, 1,451 motorcycles, 86 vehicles and 202 tricycles were impounded. The enforcement is to protect lives and property and to maintain law and order.”
