Job Title: Trainee Pharmacist

Location: Ikeja, Lagos

Job Summary

 

A trainee pharmacist (often called a pharmacy intern or pre-registration pharmacist) is a 12-month structured role for pharmacy degree graduates.

Under the direct supervision of registered pharmacists, trainees dispense medications, conduct patient consultations, manage inventory, and develop clinical skills to achieve their professional licensure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dispensing & Compounding: Interpret prescriptions, detect therapeutic incompatibilities, and prepare, package, and label medications according to safety guidelines.
  • Patient Care: Provide over-the-counter (OTC) advice, conduct medication reviews, and counsel patients on proper dosage regimens and potential side effects.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain medicine stock, check for expired products, and handle controlled drug balances.
  • Clinical Rotations: Complete a structured training program across different healthcare settings (e.g., hospitals, community pharmacies, or GP practices).
  • Professional Development: Maintain an educational portfolio, complete competency assessments, and study for final board or registration examinations.

Core Requirements

  • Education: A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.
  • Supervision: Operates under a Designated Supervisor who signs off on clinical competencies at the end of the foundation year.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills to interact with patients and other healthcare professionals, high concentration to avoid dispensing errors, and robust organizational abilities.

Salary

N150,000 - N350,000 per month.
