Veterinary Council of Nigeria Press Release

Posted on: Mon 20-07-2020

The attention of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) has been drawn to an online publication by the Sun Newspaper of 14th July, 2020 with the caption “DSS arrests Two Veterinary Doctors for Supplying Bandits with Camouflage, Military Uniform, Treating Rustled Cattle”. The story named the suspects as Nepas Kefas and Caleb Gavers.

The Veterinary Council of Nigeria wish to notify the general public that after thorough fact check of our records, we have confirmed that Nepas Kefas and Caleb Gavers are not and have never been registered by the  Veterinary Council of Nigeria as Veterinary Doctors; in the circumstance, the two suspects are mere impostors.

The Council views seriously the deliberate attempt of the sun newspapers to malign her hard earned reputation through the perjurious publication without verification of the true identities of the criminals from the Veterinary Regulatory body.

Council wishes to further advice members of the public to desist from engaging in any form of Veterinary Practice or presenting himself or herself as Veterinary Doctor or even using the title “Veterinary Doctor” as doing so constitutes a serious offence under section 15 of the Veterinary Surgeon Act 2004 and punishable with two years’ imprisonment.

All are warned!

Signed:

AIG Aishatu Abubakar DVM, Ph.D NPOM
