West African College of Surgeons April 2022 Primary, Diploma (In Anaesthesia), Membership/Part I & Fellowship(Final) Examinations

The APRIL 2022 Fellowship examinations of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS), in the Faculties of Anaesthesia, Dental Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ORL), Orthopaedics, Radiology and Surgery, will hold from 20th to 29th April 2022 

For all levels of application, log on to www.wacscoac.org  and follow the step-by-step procedure for online applications. 

The Primary examinations will hold on Friday 22nd April 2022 in eight (8) centres as follows: 

  1. Abuja, Nigeria 
  2. Accra, Ghana 
  3. Banjul, The Gambia 
  4. Enugu, Nigeria 
  5. Freetown, Sierra Leone 
  6. Ibadan, Nigeria 
  7. Kumasi, Ghana 
  8. Monrovia, Liberia 

Primary examinations for all Faculties shall be by Computer Based Test (CBT). Further information on the venues of the CBT shall be announced later via www.wacscoac.org

REQUIREMENTS FOR PRIMARY EXAMINATIONS 

  1. MBBS/ BDS certificate from a recognized university. 
  2. Full registration certificate with Medical and Dental Council of your country (Receipt of payment for full registration or provisional registration or annual practicing license is NOT acceptable). 
  3. Certification page (to be downloaded from the website, filled, and submitted online) 
  4. Evidence of a change of name (where applicable).

DIPLOMA IN ANAESTHESIA EXAMINATION CENTRES 

  1. National Hospital, Abuja/University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria. 
  2. Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH)Accra, Ghana. 
  3. University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria.

REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA IN ANAESTHESIA 

{Diploma in Anaesthesia multiple choice examinations shall be by Computer Based Test (CBT)} 

  1. Completion of the requisite twelve (12) months training in Anaesthesia in an accredited institution. 
  2. Photocopy of APPROVED LOGBOOK / PORTFOLIO to be uploaded on the portal, (No hard copy is needed at the Secretariat). 
  3. Certification page (to be downloaded from the website, filled, and submitted online). 
  4. Evidence of a change of name (where applicable).

MEMBERSHIP (PART I) EXAMINATION CENTRES 

  1. National Hospital, Abuja/University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria. 
  2. Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH)Accra, Ghana. 
  3. University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria. All Membership/Part I multiple choice examinations shall be by Computer Based Test (CBT). 

REQUIREMENTS FOR MEMBERSHIP/PART I 

  1. Primary examination statement of result of the West African College of Surgeons or its equivalent with exemption certificate. 
  2. Satisfactorily completed appropriate years of postgraduate training as prescribed by the relevant Faculty in the institution(s) accredited for the purpose by the College.
  3. Original Certificate of Training (COT) form with dates of commencement and completion of training to be uploaded on the website (No hard copy is to be submitted to the College.) 
  4. Original APPROVED LOGBOOK should be uploaded on the portal (No hard copy is needed at the College). 
  5. Evidence of registration as a Surgeon in Training 
  6. Authentication form, to be downloaded from the website, fill it with proper endorsement from Fellows and Head of Department and upload it on the website. 
  7. Certificates of attendance of relevant revision courses/updates. 
  8. Evidence of change of name (where applicable)

FELLOWSHIP (PART II) EXAMINATION CENTRES 

  1. National Hospital/University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria 
  2. Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH)Accra, Ghana 
  3. University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria

Candidates sitting for the Fellowship (final) examination can now apply for Orthopaedics as an additional Faculty to the existing seven Faculties of the College. 

All Fellowship multiple choice examinations shall be by Computer Based Test (CBT)

REQUIREMENTS FOR FELLOWSHIP/PART II EXAMINATIONS 

  1. Membership/Part I certificate of the West African College of Surgeons or its equivalent. 
  2. It is mandatory for candidates who were awarded Membership to upload their certificates on the portal, as statement of result will not be accepted. 
  3. Satisfactorily completed appropriate years of postgraduate training and worked in their specialties for at least two years in the institution(s) accredited for the purpose by the College. 
  4. Original Certificates of Training (COT) form with dates of commencement and completion of training to be uploaded on the website. 
  5. Original APPROVED LOGBOOK should be uploaded on the College website (No hard copy should be submitted to the College). 
  6. Certificates of attendance of Manuscript Writing Workshop and Health Management and Ethics workshop. 
  7. Authentication form, to be downloaded from the website, filled with proper endorsement from Fellows and Head of Department and upload it on the website. 
  8. Certificates of attendance of relevant revision courses/updates. 
  9. Evidence of a change of name (where applicable).
  10. Only candidates that submitted dissertations in September 2021 and have been cleared by their assessors need to apply for APRIL 2022 having fulfilled all other requirements. Any candidate whose dissertation is rejected will have to apply for October 2022 examination. An exception to this rule is candidates that were referred at the October 2021 fellowship examination in dissertations who will be expected to submit their corrected dissertations before the close of application.

EXAMINATION FEES 

  1. Primary examination - N55,500 
  2. Diploma in Anaesthesia (DA) - N110,000 
  3. Membership/Part I examination - N160,000 
  4. Fellowship/Part II (Final) examination - N200,000

Mode of payment Payment for all aspects of the examinations should be made online either in Naira, Dollars (US) and Cedis (GHA). Details of all approved currencies can be accessed on the Portal. No payment teller shall be accepted by the College. Any candidate who does not follow this directive shall be disqualified and examinations fees forfeited. 

Deferment of examination after submission of application or refund of examination fees after payment would not be entertained.

CLOSING DATE 

1. Submission of application closes on Friday 28th January 2022. 

2. ALL FELLOWSHIP CANDIDATES that plan to sit for the OCTOBER 2022 final Fellowship/ Part II examinations are to submit dissertations (all faculties) and casebooks (O&G only) latest on Friday 15th April 2022 via the designated faculties-based email addresses below. (The subject should read: Surname with other Initials and DISSERTATION & PROPOSAL FOR OCTOBER 2022 EXAMS for example: DR. DAKUM EJIOFOR: DISSERTATION & PROPOSAL (OCTOBER 2022) No hard copy of Dissertation, Proposal & Casebook will be accepted by the College.

GENERAL INFORMATION 

  • Candidates are advised to carefully populate appropriate fields meant for surname and other names; any error that arises from this may lead to candidates` disqualification.
  • The College website is the only veritable medium by which eligible candidates list and approved Timetable will be published. Therefore, candidates should check the College website for the approved list of eligible candidates and examination timetable a month to the examination and should not solely rely on the automated approval slip received.
  • The College reserves the right to change candidate’s examination venue at any time it deems necessary.
  • All applications are expected to be executed online; NO hard copy of any document is expected to be submitted to college.
  • Note on deferment: Deferment of examination after submission of application or refund of examination fees after payment would not be entertained.
  • Candidates are to upload all relevant documents after payment has been made on the portal and click on ‘submit’ button before their applications can be validated.
