West African College of Surgeons February / April 2024 Primary, Diploma (In Anaesthesia), Membership & Fellowship (Final) Examinations

The West African College of Surgeons (WACS) announces the commencement of online registration for February/April 2024 examinations in the Faculties of Anaesthesia, Dental Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ORL), Orthopaedics, Radiology and Surgery. All applicants are advised to visit the College website on www.wacscoac.org  and follow the step-by-step procedure for online applications.

The Primary examinations will hold on Friday 16" February, 2024 in eight (8) centres as follows:

1. Abuja. Nigeria

2. Accra, Ghana

3. Banjul, The Gambia

4. Enugu, Nigeria

5.Freetown, Sierra Leone

6. Ibadan, Nigeria

7. Kumasi, Ghana

8. Monrovia. Liberia

Primacy examinations for all Faculties shall be by Computer Based Test (C87). Further information on the venues of the CRT shall be announced later via www.wancoac.org 

REQUIREMENTS FOR PRIMARY EXAMINATIONS

1. MBBS/BDS certificate from a recognized university.

2. Full registration certificate with Medical and Dental Council of your country (Receipt of payment for full registration or provisional registration or annual practicing license is NOT acceptable).

3. Certification page (to be downloaded from the website, filled, and submitted online)

4. Evidence of a change of name (where applicable)

DIPLOMA IN ANAESTHESIA EXAMINATION CENTRES

1. National Hospital / University of Abuja Teaching Hospital. Abuja. Nigeria.

2. Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) Accra, Ghana.

3. University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria

REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA IN ANAESTHESIA

(Diploma in Anaesthesia multiple choice examinations shall be by Computer Based Test (CBT) which holds on Friday 12th April 2024

1. Completion of the requisite twelve (12) months training in Anaesthesia in an accredited institution. 2. Certificate of attendance of relevant update course (Compulsory)

3. LOGBOOK / PORTFOLIO to be uploaded on the portal, (No hard copy is needed at the Secretariat).

4. Certification page (to he downloaded from the website, filled, and submitted online).

5. Evidence of a change of name (where applicable).

MEMBERSHIP CBT EXAMINATION (GROUP A)

The Membership CBT examinations in the faculties of Anaesthesia, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Radiology & Surgery will hold on Friday 16th February, 2024 in eight (8) centres as follows:

MEMBERSHIP CBT EXAMINATION (GROUP B)

The Membership CDT examinations in the faculties of Dental Surgery. Ophthalmology & OtorhInotaryngology will hold on Friday 12th April 2024 in Three (3) centres as follows:

1. Abuja, Nigeria

2. Accra, Ghana

3. Iberian. Nigeria

MEMBERSHIP CLINICAL EXAMINATION CENTRES

ALL Membership essay papers will be held on Saturday 13th April 2024. The clinical examinations will hold between 15th to 19th April 2024 in the following centres

1. National Hospital /University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria.

2. Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH)Accra, Ghana.

3. 3 University College Hos ital (UCH) Ibadan, Nigeria

REQUIREMENTS FOR MEMBERSHIP EXAMINATIONS

a. Primary examination statement of result of the West African College of Surgeons or its equivalent with exemption certificate.

b. Satisfactorily completed appropriate years of postgraduate training as prescribed by the relevant Faculty in the institution(s) accredited for the purpose by the College.

c. Original Certificate of Training (COT) form with dates of commencement and completion of training to be uploaded on the website (No hard copy is to be submitted to the College.)

d. LOGBOOK should be uploaded on the portal, except for faculty of Dental surgery that requires both soft copy and hard copy of the logbook.

e. Evidence of registration as a Surgeon in Training (S.I.T)

f. Authentication form. to be downloaded from the website, filled with proper endorsement from Fellows and Head of Department and uploaded on the website.

g. Certificates of attendance of relevant revision courses/updates.

h. Evidence of chance of name (where applicable)

FELLOWSHIP (FINAL) EXAMINATION CENTRES

The final Fellowship CRT examinations in the faculties of Orthopaedics, Radiology & Surgery holds on Friday 12th April 2024. The essay examinations will he conducted on Saturday 13th April 2024. The Clinical are scheduled to hold from Monday 15th  to Friday 19th April 2024 in the following centres

1. National Hospital/University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria

2. Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH)Accra, Ghana

3. University College Hospital (UCH) lbadan, Nigeria

All Fellowship multiple choke examinations shall be by Computer Raced Test (CBT)

REQUIREMENTS FOR FELLOWSHIP (FINAL) EXAMINATIONS

a. Membership / Part I certificate of the West African College of Surgeons

b. It is mandatory for candidates who were awarded Membership to upload their certificates on the portal, as statement of result will not be accepted

c. Note that essay papas & clinical examinations for Membership & Fellowship will be held in Abuja, Accra & Ibadan centre; only.

d. Satisfactorily completed appropriate years of postgraduate training and worked in their specialties for at least two years in the institution(s) accredited for the purpose by the College.

e. Original Certificates of Training (COT) form with dates of commencement and completion of training are to be uploaded on the website. i. LOGBOOK should be uploaded on the College website. except for faculty of Dental surgery that requires both soft copy and hard copy of the logbook.

f. Certificates of attendance at Manuscript Writing Workshop and Health Management and Ethics workshop.

g. Authentication form. to be downloaded from the website. filled with proper endorsement from Fellows and 'lead of Department and uploaded on the website.

h. Certificates of attendance of relevant revision courses/updates.

i. Evidence of a change of name (where applicable).

Only candidates that submitted dissertations in October 2023 and have been cleared by their assessors need to apply for April 2024, haring fulfilled all other requirements. Any candidate whose dissertation A rejected will have to apply for the October 2024 examination. An exception to this rule is candidate\ that were referred at the October 2023 fellowship examination in dissertations who are expected to submit their corrected dissertations before the close of application.

POST FELLOWSHIP CERTIFICATE. in 1. Assisted Reproductive Technology 2. Urogynaecology 3. Gynaecological Endoscopy

EXAMINATION FEES

1. Primary examination - $150 or N90,000 or GHC 1,800

2. Diploma in Anaesthesia (DA) - $325 or N195,000 or GHC 3,900

3. Membership examination - $425 or N255,000 or GHC 5,100

4. Fellowship (Final) examination - $625 or N375,000 or GHC 7,500

5. Post Fellowship examination $750 or N450,000 or GHC 9,000

MODE OF PAYMENT

Payment for all aspects of the examinations should be made online either in Naira, Dollars (US) or Cedis (GHA). Details of all approved currencies can be accessed on the College Portal, No payment teller shall be accepted by the College. Any candidate who does not follow this instruction shall be disqualified and examination fees forfeited.

Deferment of examination after submission of application or refund of examination fees after payment would not be entertained.

CLOSING DATE

1. Submission of application closes on Friday 26th January 2024. Late registration closes on Friday 2nd February 2024. Penalty for late registration of application is $300 / N180,000 / GHC 3,600 only; this is exclusive of the examination fees.

2. ALL FELLOWSHIP CANDIDATES that plan to sit for the OCTOBER 2024 final Felllowship examinations are to submit dissertations (all facilities) and casebooks (O&G only), as well as choice of examiantion centres, latest on Tuesday 30th April 2024 via the designated faculty - based email addresses below

(The subject should read: Surname with other Initials and DISSERTATION & PROPOSAL FOR OCTOBER 2024 EXAMS for example; DR. DAKUM EMILOKAN EJIOFOR; DISSERTATION & PROPOSAL (OCTOBER 2024) No hard copy of Dissertation, Proposal & Casebook will be accepted by the College.

  • Candidates are advised to carefully populate appropriate fields meant for surname and other names as you want it to appear on your certificate; any error that arises from this may lead to candidates disqualification.
  • Courier enabled address should be written in place of contact address.
  • The college website is the only veritable medium by which eligible candidates list and approved Timetable will be published. Therefore, candidates should check the College website for the approved list of eligible candidates and examination timetable and should not solely rely on the automated approval slip received.
  • The College reserves the right to executed online: No hard copy of any document should be submitted to the College.
  • Note on deferment: Deferment of examination after submission of application or refund of examination fees after payment would not be entertained.
  • Candidates are to upload all relevant documents after payment has been made on the portal and click on ‘submit’ button before their applications can be validated. Payment without submission of documents does not constitute a valid submission.
