The Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof. Usman Yusuf, has said that his administration at the Scheme will build a virile ICT Centre that will provide a veritable platform for the actualization of the Universal Health Coverage of the country.

The NHIS Chief Executive made this assertion when he paid a courtesy call on the management of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd (NIGCOMSAT) in Abuja recently.

The NHIS boss stated that with the beehive of activities that is expected in the Scheme in the next five years, there is a need to have an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) that will give a viable and empirical data that can be relied upon anywhere in the world.

According to Prof. Yusuf “a solid ICT platform offers the opportunity to curtail corruption, as every kobo spent can be accurately traced and ascertained for accountability”.

He therefore said his visit to NIGCOMSAT was to explore areas in which the organization can help the Scheme move health insurance in the country forward.

Responding, the Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive of NIGCOMSAT, Ms. Abimbola Alale, assured the Executive Secretary that the organization has all it takes to provide the ICT needs of the Scheme, and that their engineers will not only provide service to NHIS but pass valuable knowledge to the staff of the Scheme in the process.

After showcasing several areas where the NIGCOMSAT can provide support service to the Scheme, Alale said the Scheme will find the tailor-made platform of NIGCOMSAT most appropriate for its ICT needs.
