The ongoing strike by doctors and workers of Aba General Hospital has forced patients on admission at the hospital to relocate to private clinics and hospitals for further treatment. Some of them, who could not afford the medical bills of private clinics, have sought help in herbal homes.
Doctors and other medical officials embarked on strike over the failure of the management of the hospital to pay their salaries arrears for 10 months. The Chief Executive Officer, State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Ijeoma Nduka, said she was in a meeting.
Attempts to reach her one hour later failed as her phone rang out without any response. Speaking in a telephone interview, the Chairman Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Carol Iwuoha, stressed that the strike was meant to underscore their demand for salary arrears.
