ABU Teaching Hospital Workers Stage Protest Over Allowances

An umbrella body of workers at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria has staged a peaceful protest over ‘anomalies’ in 2016 promotion exercise and non-payment of arrears of allowances since 2014.

Speaking with Daily Trust yesterday, the chairman of the Joint Consultative Forum of the workers, Mr. Lawal Taufiq Bafsalam, said the protest was staged over accumulated relativity allowance, skipping arrears, uniform and promotion arrears.
“One of the most boiling issues now is the recent anomalies in 2016 promotion, where somebody somewhere sat down and rewrote scheme of service. We now have people who have been promoted but not advancing to the next level. These are some of the injustices we are peacefully fighting,” Bafsalam said.

He said if their demands were not resolved through dialogue, the union would call its members to embark on strike.

The Joint Consultative Forum comprises 10 unions that include National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Health Workers Union of Nigeria, among others.
