The Adamawa State Government and the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, recently received awards for their schemes in targeting the poor, at the fifth Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award 2018 held in Lagos.
Adamawa State received the Outstanding State Government Healthcare Programme of the Year award for its strides in a ‘mandatory health insurance scheme’ supported by Pharmaccess Foundation.
The scheme is aimed at achieving universal health coverage, as well as promoting access to quality and affordable healthcare services.
Also, the CMD of Federal Medical Centre, Yola, Prof. Auwal Abubakar, was given a Special Recognition Award for establishing the Hospital Paupers Fund, established to cover the cost of hospital services for indigent citizens.
Reacting, the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Fatima Atiku, said, “The Adamawa State Mandatory Health Insurance is a demonstration of the state’s renewed commitment to reducing the financial burden on the citizens seeking for quality healthcare and productive healthy lives.”
She thanked NHEA for the recognition which, she said, would encourage the state government to continue to do more.
