A director of West Africa Centre for Missions (WACM), Dr. Casmir Ihegworo, has counseled the federal government on healthcare delivery, saying the nation may not make substantial development except it makes the issue of citizens’ health a priority.
Ihegworo, who spoke at a one-week medical outreach at Obibi Uratta community in Owerri North Council Area of Imo state, said the country may not make any substantial breakthrough in medical and healthcare service delivery until the federal government put community medicine in the front burner.
He, however, canvassed functional hospitals and clinics to be sited in communities with a view to making citizens living at lowest rung of the ladder to experience a healthier life. Ihegworo said: “Nigeria is a community-oriented nation and if we must have serious breakthrough in medical service delivery, functional clinics and hospitals should not be concentrated in the big cities but in the rural communities where the larger percentage of our people dwell.
“Nigerians especially those living in the rural areas are in dire need of medical attention; this building for instance is supposed to be a federal clinic, but it has been over grown by weeds and had to be cleared before this outreach.”
