The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Lagos State, Adamu Ibrahim, has urged youths to desist from drug abuse, saying that it could lead to economic hardship, family disintegration and wastage of human and material resources.
According to him, preventing youths from going into crime is a tested strategy adopted by nations and institutions across the world.

Ibrahim said this on Tuesday during the 2017 National Youth Summit on Crime Prevention organised by the African Youth Initiative on Crime Prevention in partnership with the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. He also counselled youths to be of good behaviour and adopt a good lifestyle, adding that they were the pillar upon which the society would flourish.
“Let us educate our youths to shun crime and be worthy ambassadors and good citizens of our great country,” he said.
In his address, the chairman of the occasion, Mr. Eze Eluchie, a barrister, said that the future of the country depended largely on today’s youths with the right value, aptitude, capacity and character.
Also speaking at the event, the President of AYICRIP, Chris Ibe, said that the summit was aimed at creating awareness on the dangers of drug and substance abuse.
“We want to create a platform for interaction and sharing of ideas for our youths. We want them to be actively involved in the fight against drug and substance abuse and illicit trafficking in Nigeria and Africa,” he said.
