Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State yesterday said the recently launched state health insurance scheme will be made compulsory for all residents in accessing government services.
Ajimobi said during the launch of the N50 billion healthcare endowment fund held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, that people would not comply unless the scheme was made compulsory. Ajimobi asserted that parents would be asked to show their health insurance cards before their children could be enrolled in schools. “The compulsory registration will start from civil servants and parents in the state to corporate organizations and all employers of labour,” he said, explaining that employers of labour would be forced to register their staff as a way to ensure that all and sundry keyed into it.
He added, “Our duty as government is not only to preserve the healthcare but to enhance it. We are adopting Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement in our mandate to deliver. Our target is to partner all and sundry in handling and funding of healthcare delivery in the state.”
