THE African Leaders Malaria Alliance, ALMA, today presents the 2018 Awards for Excellence to six countries that have shown strong leadership in decreasing malaria cases, even as global progress risks losing momentum.
While malaria deaths in Africa have plunged since 2000, malaria cases rose in 2016, signaling that years of progress are at risk. This year’s 2018 Awards for Excellence winners are defying this global trend. African leaders have committed to end malaria by 2030. The annual ALMA Awards for Excellence celebrate progress, commitment and innovation in reducing and preventing malaria cases and deaths.
Winners are selected by an independent committee of experts in health, academia and the private sector, using data from the World Health Organization’s annual World Malaria Report and the ALMA Scorecard for Accountability and Action.
Winning Heads of States will attend the ceremony at the ongoing African Union Conference Centre.
