Barely two days after the Nigerian Navy advertised vacanices for nurses, an annonymous nurse presumably working with the Nigeria Naval hospital has cried out to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to turn its gaze towards them and help them.
In an annonymous email to NursingworldNigeria.com, he/she wrote:
I write these with heavy heart, disappointment, hurt and pain. I wish to remain anonymous or I will end in jail.
First of all I wish to ask why we nurses in the military are not recognized by nmcn. That's why the military treat and use us as slaves. Imagine being paid fifty two thousand naira (52,000) after three years on the job, Manning a ward of 30 patients, OPD, A and E with the support of a cleaner turned to half auxiliary nurse.
This is a place were O level personnel's earns more than qualified nurses. A place were your opinion is not needed. Its more military than hospital. Salary scale of level 2, health hazard of five thousand naira (5,000). Poor opportunity to further ones education or schooling.
You answer staff nurse till retirement. Auxiliaries occupy almost every hospital. Additional qualifications does not count. you are only paid according to your rank or rate. As a commissioned officer your rank must not pass captain.
We cry out to nursing council that we need help. we are still part of the nursing umbrella. Nmcn should come and scrutinize these and come to our aid. precisely Nigerian navy. We are slowly dying here!!!
