The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has donated drugs and other medical equipment valued at about N3m to Katsina state government for the treatment of Celebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) in the state.
Katsina is among the worst hit state with about 60 recorded death since its outbreak.
Presenting the donations, Deputy National President of the association, Musa Mamman said this is a show of support and solidarity to the ongoing efforts at curtailing the epidemic. He assured the members readiness to partner the government to address the situation.
On his part, the association’s General Secretary, Thomas Shettima said similar donations were made to Sokoto state and that more states will get theirs with time.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of health, Dr. Kabir Mustafa said following prompt interventions, no new cases of the disease were being recorded in the state.
He said, about N18m has so far been expended by the state on purchase of vaccines and other essential commodities to tackle the CSM issues across the most affected local governments of the state.
